The Amazon Prime account saves on shipping cost for some items, but the movie rentals were not a selling point for me. Redbox is cheaper.

Even though I live in the city, with a light rail and easy bus access to Walmarts and such, I prefer Amazon and Amazon Prime for many reasons. Since I don't have a car right now I don't need to lug heavy items back on a bus or train. Or lots of little items. Plus - no sales tax. That's a big bonus. And considering I do almost all my shopping for non-food items there, that savings alone probably pays for the Prime Membership. Plus, the other 3 family members here get it free with my paid subscription. Even if I order something last minute it gets here quickly. I've had some items arrive the next day. Their subscribe and save is great, too - five percent off, and if you have 5 subscriptions you get fifteen percent off all of them. Right now I have two - both for boxes of cat food. Their prices are lower than the nearby grocery store, and the additional 5 percent off makes it that much lower.

With the whole sales tax thing. At least in New Jersey since they are building a new warehouse they are going to start charging sales tax. because NJ is a very greedy state. It actually might be effecting all states. So watch out for this. just a warning.

Thanks for that info....I need to check my Amazon membership...I have a seller acct which (I think) gives (or used to) free Prime membership. They have a large collection of high quality pet food; brands sold only in high-end (not even Pet Smart) but $$ speciality brands. Defintely placing this on my "to do" list.

Yes, but if you do want something in a pinch you won't get it in the 2 days unless you pay for the upgraded shipping AND you're always spending the extra to get to $25...much easier and cheaper in the long run to pay for Prime(plus you get their free movies & tv shows).

It's fantastic if you shop on Amazon often. You pay $79 per year(but only $49 if you're a student for up to 4 years). The benefit is their version of Netflix Instant(movies you can watch free on the computer including tv shows), and free 2 days shipping on most items(always marked "prime"). For me, I more than make my money back, and I absolutely LOVE Prime!!! Not sure why all the hate from others...I think it's a great-great deal, and I shop on amazon a ton.

Have it! Love it! Stream the video through my Vizio 3D TV and makes it even better! Books and music (they are always offering free books and music every month), Prime members get a cheaper price on certain items and am liking their new add an item feature. Ordered almost everything FREE (used $700 in swagbucks giftcards)for Christmas through them with their sales and 2 days shipping my family got their gifts super fast! They price match so that is awesome. I like that while I am on vacation we can watch movies on our kindles while traveling! Have also bought a ton of home improvement stuff off the site cheap for our house/backyard remodel!

Prime is worth the money, at least for my family. The savings we have gained from the free 2 day shipping, alone paid for the subscription of $79.99/yr.

I also enjoy the unlimited free tv & movie streaming. There isn't as many offerings as Hulu and Netfix, but they add to their catalog each week.

Not during the holidays! With all the quick sales near Christmas, Prime is such a big help. I more than got my money's worth last December, and everything was here in time for Santa. Much better sales than Walmart had on many things I planned to purchase. (And some that I didn't!)

Also, during the Christmas rush prime members had the option to get a $1 credit per order for opting for the regular shipping instead of 2-day. I was ordering early so I made back at least $10 from this.

The post is happening alot...so here it goes:
Prime is a free 2 day shipping service that allows you to order all the items that are shipped by Amazon with unlimited free 2 day shipping or discounted 1 day shipping. Its a sort of all you can eat buffet of shipping for $79 a year.
Along with that, you get access to a video service THAT IS LIKE netflix. And whats more, you also get access to a library of books for your kindle where you can borrow one book a month for free, books like hunger games and harry potter.
Even better, you can share it with up to four accounts in the same household...very handy when other family members want to do christmas shopping, but dont' want you to see the order history.
