YES, currently. This girl ALWAYS eats my food and my drinks. When I confronted her about it, she blames her "friends", and then said she'll go and buy me some more. She usually doesn't, but when she actually does, SHE EATS IT AGAIN IN LESS THAN A DAY. Second, whenever she does her laundry, she doesn't takes out her clothes from the dryer for DAYS! So when I have to do mine, I would have to take it out for her...I DON'T WANNA TOUCH YOUR NASTY THONGS. Third, she sneaks in my room when I'm gone on the weekends. I know this for sure because my bed often looks different and there's stuff on my nighstand that ISN'T MINE. The lock doesn't work, so I don't even know what to do! And the list goes on and on...
Mindaboo
on 04/18/13
Fix the lock. And tell her to LEAVE YOUR STUFF ALONE and/or make her pay for the stuff that she eats of yours.

In highschool I had a roommate who left a big box by my bed and said it HAD to stay there. Whatever was in it, it was rotting. The whole dorm room smelled like a garbage can. She acted like a neat freak, but man... hard to forget a girl like that.

Advice: It helps to get a roomate that is not problematic to you. So look for a roomate with ways you don't mind. For example, one that smokes.

Reading these comments, I realize that I lucked out in college. A few minor disagreements, some personality differences (which doesn't make one bad or good; some people really shouldn't be roommates if they are such complete opposites in personality), and the normal college-aged (late teens-early twenties) drama. Fun times. After college, I lost every bit of patience for stupidity. More fun times.

Other than being married, I've only had three roommates: 2 were females and one was male. I was a difficult person to live with with the females. Did really well with the male except he killed a snake in the yard/grass. (I wanted the snake to live...) Weird as I'm female... My stepson roomed with two other guys for a LONG time, and they are still great friends...they all grew up together...and they all now have their own families.

Haha... I've been that roommate that stayed up countless hours in the night playing video games, eating cold spaghetti O's out of the can ( no dishes). Every time I lost I would complain (putting it lightly) at the game but because I was wearing headphones I had no idea how loud I was till my roommate came out one night and threatened bodily harm. After that I just put the TV on mute and used sign language.

Have you ever had a bad roommate? Yes

1) He brought his brother's girlfriend over to my place & had sex with her when I was gone.
2) He would not pay rent & did not help with bills & other household expenses.

I could go on but I don't want to exhaust the list or bore you with the extensive details. He was a roommate from hell who in the end got Baker Acted. Things got violent with him so I filed for an injunction against him. No more roommates for me. It is never good to share your living quarters with anyone but your husband and children. Anybody else is out of the question. Needless to say, I will never do this again. No way, JOSE'

I don't know how my friend does it. She lives in this house with a bunch of other girls. But they all share an interest, they all run with her on her college track team. and for the person who said why would parents allow you to have roommates why not stay home? or whatever. um what if your moving 4 hours away from your family and going away to school, our parents can't just leave their jobs and stuff if they have one. I'm kinda scared going out on my own but know I have to do it gain independence.

I think the computer dating method would be good- get interests, needs, sleep times together and find a bunch of potential roomies to dorm with. If you are grown up - do a background check or ask for references. In all times- do have private space- out of bounds area, private time, and a chore chart- who cleans what and when, and rules- strict ones until you get to be friends- no extra people, no stealing food, no snooping, etc. And also have some friend time to get to know roomie. I have two wonderful lifelong friends who were former roomies- we alweays respected space, had private time but I confess- I like them better when they are not rooming with me.

I had a roommate from hell- she started to get a schizo episode and I thought she would pour boiling water on me while I slept. She defrosted our mini fridge one day when I came back and was found sitting in the puddle from the fridge. I was so freaked! Why do we have to be at a dorm with no wall in the middle when we have such a big room and could be divided down the middle? I also had a roommate who took in a homeless student and she slept on the floor in the middle of our room- violating fire code. Then, I had one that was OCD- and complaine my dust went to her side. She had her boyfriend with her alll the time, cooked her stinky cheese stuff in her toaster oven and kept late night and squeaked the chair on our tile floor- and she still had the gall to complain about my invisible dust on her small brown carpet- when I was the one who always swept and mopped the floor.

Ahh, the days before husbands and kids! Guys for me always made the best roommates. Except for the one that would tinkle off the deck in his sleep.I suppose it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't of lived in the second story of an apartment complex. I roomed with two female friends (at separate times) who by the end were no longer my friends. One was so bad and so super needy that I told her I was going to move out (of the house I was renting from my family )but would still pay half the bills till the lease was up so she wouldn't be stuck but she said she couldn't live alone so we both moved. My BFF and I once rented houses right next to each other we're still friends today!

I like how only 7 percent would admit to being a bad roommate. Theoretically 46% of people should have been a bad roommate, considering that's how many said they have had a bad roommate. Some of us are in denial.

on 04/17/13
lol well if you think about it people are more likely to have come across at least one bad roommate out of all the multiple they have had, than to be one themselves. If someone has 2 roommates, that's double the chance of having a bad roommate than being one themselves.

My worst roommates were two guys that workmates when the company relocated. After they settled in, they started not paying rent, getting high on drugs and skipping out on cleaning/food bills. The last straw came when one of them wanted me to hold their crack in my room so they wouldn't smoke it all in one night. They ended up stealing some of my stuff while I was at work and tried giving me the money to leave some of my stuff for them. Will never room with anyone I work with again.

When I sent my daughter to college I thought they had dorm moms. I found out soon that her roommate was making her sleep in some common area on the floor so that she could have her boyfriend spend the night with her. Boy was I stupid.

You weren't stupid. You just didn't know. That's all. I hope that things are better now for your daughter & that in the future, she'll have a much better experience with any subsequent roommates.

By the time you are in college your an adult. I don't really understand how 18 has become the new 8. It is really crazy how children and now even adults are helicoptered over as if in life there are never obstacles and learning how to face obstacles even if they cause momentary discomfort is a bad thing.

I kind of disagree 18 is the age that you becone a legal adult, but even some 30 year olds act like children, and about your second half yes life does have obstacles that you need to overcome by yourself, but i believe life should be joyous, because if not then what's the point of living
