Totty. It's Yiddish for "dad". A more formal version would be "Tatte" (accent over the "e"), which means "father".

Hey! I also do! I've been looking through all the posts and thought I would be the first one. I guess not. I love you, Totty! You're the best (and Mommy too ;) )

I got kicked out of the house twice In my life... thus I have zero family and that means no dad or mother... deal with that if you will.

Haven't you noticed that it would be really weird to call him something other than you are used to? Like, I always call my dad daddy, unless i'm talking about him to others (and when I do, im talking about how great he is :D). I tried calling him dad while talking directly to him, but I couldn't do it, he's not dad, he's daddy!!! XD

My dad isn't a dad. He's never wanted anything to do with me and I realize now I don't need him in my life. I chose "I don't".. Simply because I don't, haven't and never will have a daddy, unless that counts for my mom being my mom and dad both.

First Fathers day without "Dad". He was the most courageous man in a long battle with cancer. The Lord called him home and that was a blessing because he was having a
terrible time that last week. Im so thankful for the time we had him! Everyone that is able, give your father a great big hug-And for those that can't, remember God is always our Father forever! BTW I call Him Father, or Heavenly Father usually...He is my comfort, my strength and my hope.

You are so lucky to have had the time you had with him! The Lord is taking care of him now, and He will help you in your troublesome times, I know how it feels to loose someone you love, I am still hurting at the loss of my Mamaw, and she's been gone over 2 years! Also be blessed that you had someone that loved you like He did, mine would rather be with his other children, I mean his new wife's, than me. At least I have my Mama and my uncle, who loves me as if I was his own daughter! This verse helped me in times of trouble and sadness, Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
May you be blessed today, and I will pray for you.

Im glad you have your mom and your uncle! God always sends help when we need it- even his word through you....God bless you always, will pray for comfort for you too , sorry to hear of mawmaws passing. I feel so happy thinking of seeing them again ):

Actually my sister and I had many affectionate names for our daddy--as he did for us. Sometimes we would call him by his nickname or given name along with another fun or silly word, like Huey Bear or Eugene the Jeep, and it was never disrespectful. But to call him exclusively by his first name, yes, i agree, it would have put a distance between us and been inappropriate. How I wish he were still here for me to call him any of our loving names and hear him call me by one of his names for me! He has been gone for 35 years now, and I STILL miss him. I was blessed to have such a loving man of integrity and sweetness as my father...

My father is just a sperm donor too. He was never in my life and years later when I told him thanks for being a sperm donor...since that is basically what he was...he got offended. Go figure. Never be in a kids life and then get offended by the truth...tsk...tsk...tsk.

I called the man who raised me and my siblings from the time I was 12, Dad, until he passed away...and still do. The man who is my paternal parent is referred to by his name since he has rarely had anything to do with any of us since I was 7. He refers to himself as Dad but there is almost no communication between us other than the junk he forwards from his email. There is much more to being a Dad than contributing half of the genes.

On a good note I made it a point to raise my kids totally different than how I was raised. My three eldest children are in college majoring in awesome degree's. They all work also! None are married, none have children yet. I've told them even if we disagree it'll pass, we'll get over it. The main thing is we are family so I'm always here. And ya'll should get eachothers back no matter what.

I don't call my father anything anymore. We haven't spoken in a long, long time. I could look past all the abuse from my childhood for the sake of family, but when he started saying abusive things to my daughter after her father died, that was it for me. I couldn't forget nor forgive that. So there's no contact anymore.
