Does the cost of gas ever stop you if you want to go somewhere within 50 miles (80.5 km) of you? Submitted By iferbob, NJ
Yes.
No.
I don't have to pay for gas or I don't drive.

About 10 years ago, I willingly turned in my DLs. It's just too crazy to drive anymore. I've done JUST FINE without 'em too. Price of cars....price of maintaining them...heck...the price of gas!! It's just not worth it. The City Bus, the "people trains" here....Amtrak...Greyhound....all of 'em are running whether I'm using them or not. Might as well use them and pay LESS and save MY sanity from all the boneheads driving cars.

We don't have those options where I live. But, I'd still rather pay the price of gas/car, etc. than have to rely on the hassle of public transportation. When we were in DC we took the subway everywhere. At first it was cool because we weren't used to it, but after a day or so it got to be a pain. All the waiting, walking, etc. got to be a drag. Not to mention that with a family of 4 public transportation gets expensive.

I take the subway in DC on an almost daily basis and I don't find it to be a pain 99 percent of the time. It is SO much better than driving in DC.

You're lucky to have comprehensive bus service where you live. No buses in my town. Maybe some day.

I don't even know what gas prices are here since I usually walk or bike. If I'm going on a long-distance trip then I don't pay much attention to it since knowing the price won't make it any cheaper to get where I'm going and since it's a non-renewable resource I'm okay with the price being high.
triathlon29
on 10/06/13
I agree, I believe the price should be higher too and it should be taxed much more than it is in the United States given all the damage it does and that it is non-renewable. I don't know either the price as I usually walk or take public transportation.

I don't feel that gas should be cheap. The negative impact of using it is very high. It's good that people are thinking about how much of it they use.

Not allowing me to vote, keeps disappearing. But my answer is yes, if it's something that's not necessary. I try to combine all my trips into as few as possible.

With hubby having a day job as a courier, he may go through a tank of gas a day!!! Just depends on where they send him all over town. It's a mini-van. PLUS, his night job is delivering the newspapers. Only the 1 car so he has to take me to work Friday-Sunday. Needless to say, no unecessary driving around here!

I drive a little s-10 and you'd think I could make it anywhere on $10, I use to be able to back when gas was at $1.79g hahaha

Yes...even in my little Subaru, that's still more money than I have most of the time. My sister lives 150 miles away, and I haven't seen her in two years because neither of us can afford the gas to either visit or meet halfway.

Currently at $3.80 per gallon here in Wyoming -- and absolutely no option for public transportation unless I wanted to take the bus, which is about the same expense :P

So the little guy pops up and says "double entries = twice the chance to win", but if EVERYONE gets double entries, we all have the exact same chance to win as we would if everyone got single entries, right?

I have a '99 Corolla! However being rural I have to do quite a bit of driving for normal work/home so any extra trips get trimmed down. Gas is just too expensive here at almost $5 and mine is the only income.

I live in N. Michigan as well and the gas stations around me seem to do the same jump about a dollar or two down then up in the same 4.99 to 3.60 give or take range, within 3 days apart to a week
