i'm shocked that so many people hate foreign films! I personally LOVE subtitles even for movies in English because I don't have very good hearing so reading it helps me understand what they're saying and i also prefer subtitles over dubs because
1. i love hearing the original language. foreign languages have always fascinated me.
2. i absolutely HATE it when their mouths don't match with the words they're saying.

No. I WATCH movies and READ books...subtitles are annoying and I miss half the action because my eyes are shifted to the bottom of the screen instead of the whole thing. Voice-overs are a little better if they are done well, but then I still end up focusing on the actor's lips instead of the big picture. I pass on foreign films.
prismcat
on 07/31/13
I should clarify - I don't care where it was filmed or who the actors are, as long as they are speaking English and I don't have to "read" the movie or get distracted by voice-over lip service. I've enjoyed many English-speaking foreign films that weren't filmed in Hollywood.

One of the options should read, "I only watch them if I have to for a college class." I know that is the only time I have watched foreign films.

I don't mind if it is a good movie. I just hate when they don't leave the subtitles on screen long enough for me to read it all and I either miss it or have to skip back. Although I prefer subtitles over English voice actors. I can't stand it when they put English voices over it and their words don't match with their lips or the actor doesn't do a good job.

My BIGGEST pet peeve is not having the track match even when everything is in English. So much so that my brother had me watch all of the movies that he and his buddies submitted for their computer classes. I can pick up on a track that is off by less than half a second and it bugs me SOOOOOO much. LOL A voice over, forget it. I'm too distracted to follow the movie!

I wonder, how many of you realize that Lord of the Rings is, technically, a foreign film to those in the United States, where I'm assuming, correct me if I'm wrong, this question is mainly guided towards. Monty Python films most certainly are foreign films. You may enjoy them more than you realize.

What about Ghibli films, people have to at least like one of them?

I like watching the foreign movies in their own language with subtitles. I don't like watching the ones where the audio is in english instead of the language it is supposed to be in because the audio doesn't match with the lips.

I came across the urban legend before when researching the "Glasgow Grin" of Kakihara (from Ichi the Killer) and The Joker (from Batman: The Dark Knight). :)

If you're still around, which version (year) did you see? There were 7 live action version titles listed on the Kuchisake-onna ("Slit-Mouthed Woman") Wikipedia page

The 2007 version. I also saw the sequel, which is okay, but it's mostly a chick flick (in my opinion) for the first half of the movie.
