My favourite means of saving money is by not reproducing.

Raising a kid costs several hundred thousand (if not over a million) dollars, making it a very expensive hobby.

I agree. I never want to have children, though it's not just because it'll cost a lot. Yes, for some people children are priceless, it's wonderful to have children, but personally I never want to have any.

I DO NOT consider my children a "hobby"! There is no bigger blessing in life than my two children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

I beg to differ. Children are PRICELESS. One cannot measure the absolute and immense worth and beauty of a human life.

Just finished replacing water-damaged carpet in my basement, along with painting the walls. Had to have a professional install the window that was leaking, but do-it-yourself work can go a long way with things like home improvement!
I've also never paid anybody to do work on my toys: ATVs, dirtbikes, motorcycles, and snowmobiles that I've had over the years. Probably saved over 10k doing that, though I've definitely spent more than that buying the machines and the parts.

I SO admire and am grateful for people like you who have the ability, skills, gifting to do these kinds of things! AND the courage to try! You are SO right! You can save LOTS by DIY! Keep up the good work and God bless the work of your hands, mind, and heart!

That is a smart idea to trade. I need to learn how to do this...sounds easy, but how does a person find others who want to trade their stuff for yours?

I'm surprised the yard sales category isn't a higher percentage... I love going to them in the summer, especially for kid's clothes/toys.

I like yard sales but always miss the good stuff! I like to be able to sleep in just a little on the weekends! I definitely do not want to get up earlier on the weekends than I do during the week for work! Around my way you have to get up with the roosters to get the good stuff!

Because while "all of the above" might be your favorite answer to Daily Polls, it is not an appropriate way to answer a question asking what is your favorite. A more reasonable answer would be "I don't have a favorite."

or even better would have been "I like them all equally"! ;)

I love thrift shopping but my sinuses hate it, well the ones who sell clothing anyway!! Luckily my mother also loves thrift shops and she can always find great deals on clothing for my boys! Unfortunately, my allergies throw a fit and have actually caused me to have an asthma attack due to the large mixture of different scents from different people all mixed together!

A mix of shopping sales and being smart with my money. With the exception of emergencies, I don't spend money unless I have it. No charging things on credit cards to "pay off" later where I pay 27% interest on it for 2 years. Not worth it!

I save money by not buying anything except absolute necessities like food and toiletries. I don't have much time for coupons, but I work in a grocery store so I get an employee discount. I don't need to bring any more clothing/junk into my house so I avoid tag sales/thrift stores. I don't want to end up like the people on "Hoarders"!

I don't "trade", but maybe would like to. Otherwise, I do all of the above, plus the very best one for me is when I can exercise good, old fashioned self-restraint and NOT buy certain things that are not really necessary, especially certain junk or other foods unless only once in awhile, OR if at a good sale price with a coupon if possible. ie NOT spend money foolishly. And here's a novel idea: actually SAVE/PUT ASIDE money on a regular basis.

Another "novel" idea that most people don't think about or even know about:...GIVING. When you GIVE, you DO receive. In time, and in ways you are amazed about! It sounds upside down, but it is true.
