Strange that with all the game shows and reality shows over the last few years only 3% have been on a show and an astonishing 77% have not been on.

plus, we're on wsagbucks, for crying out loud!!! I'm sure those who were on a game show are pursuing their carreer and probably don't need to try and earn extra gift cards here and there like the rest of us...
this isnt the general population, remember that

It doesn't surprise me one bit! There's over 300 million people in the country. I'd say 3% is actually a huge amount to have been on a show, and perhaps shows a proactive attitude or proclivity for that type of action within the Swagbucks members.

My friend growing up was on Real World (Jemmye Carroll). Embarrassed as I am to admit that. She didn't represent our town well at all but she wasn't always that way. Fame changes people.

"Wonderama" a 70's children game show
bluela

I answered incorrectly that I didn't know anyone ever on a show. I forgot about this, because I hadn't been born yet when they were on, but my older sister and our older cousin went on Wonderama. The production staff gave the kids ice cream cones and told them if they spilled any, they'd have to lick it up off the floor. My sister was terrified.

I recently saw a news segment on game shows. I was shocked. They said many times the winners don't get to keep everything because what they don't tell you is THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY THE TAXES ON YOUR WINNINGS OR ITEMS FIRST!!
They interviewed this nice girl who said she had won a boat, a trip, and something else. And she was unable to keep the boat. And did not take the trip. But I think she was able to keep a washer and dryer. That is sad !! But at least she got to keep the washer and dryer.

when i went to see 'the price is right', you have to fill out paperwork, & show them your drivers licence/ id card, and social secuity card. they want that info before you even get into the building. plus after you win anything...they want to see it again, and youre well informed of the taxes you have to pay!

You always pay taxes first on unearned income from winnings. Don't you watch the Lottery results and winnings postings? If you want to stop using roads, water, public lighting, have toilets, have schools, police and firemen then quit complaining like everybody else about paying taxes.

Water? I don't know where you live, but we pay for water and sewer here. We also pay for many roads. But most of the other things you mention are state funded, and things like schools and police/fire departments are usually funded through property taxes, not income taxes. If you feel income taxes are necessary and/or fair (the country worked fine without them for 137 years), perhaps it should only be state taxes, not federal AND state.

Of course you have to pay taxes on your winnings. How else would it be? You have to pay taxes on everything. What's worse is that the US government double dips for no supportable reason: you pay both state income taxes AND federal income taxes. That's not the way the government originally was. It is only since 1913 that federal income taxes were demanded. About the time wealthy people stopped building and donating huge public works like libraries, etc., and the government started shaping itself into a massive, widespread bureaucracy with fingers in every pie, policing every individual, business, and industry. Prior to 1913, the only personal income tax during peacetime was one in 1894 that affected less than 10% of the population. But even in 1913, the federal tax rates ranged from 1%-7%. Compare that to today's 10%-40%! That's not counting your state income tax. If you win big, or win the lottery, or even WORK to earn big, at least half is going straight to the gov

On my condo in NY I pay county, school, and village taxes. NY taxes you to death. Where I am in NH I only pay city tax. Better, and the state runs just fine, thank you. Hopefully the economy improves soon, and I'll sell the NY condo!

I did know someone, unfortunately she has since passed away. It was my co-worker's mother (who also came and mothered the staff on holidays and stuff) was on a very early show - "Queen for a Day". Also unfortunately one of my schoolmates mother went missing and that case was on a major crime show but I don't remember which one.

When I was in high school, my best friend's mother was on "The Who, What or Where Game" (yes, it was a show). She didn't win but did pretty well. A few years ago, the same friend tried out for "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" but didn't make it!

Its weird why can't people pay taxes using said winnings? Like why can't the people get the items and have the option to sell them off OR/and keep the ones they want? Really that's so backwards. Like if you get a million dollars why not use some of that money and pay the taxes? Win/Win situation.

I think you do use some of the money to pay taxes. Like if you won who wants to be a millionaire, you'd actually only end up getting $400k or so

Adding on: Why pay first then get it? Technically its buying something rather than getting something then.

How do they choose the players for the shows has always been a question of mine, is random or do you take a test or do you just look right for the spot that needs to be filled.

On Jeopardy, you go to qualifying auditions and they test you. Not only on your knowledge, but your ability to buzz in and work with the format of the show. I always wanted to try but was never in the right place at the right time. Now I'm not at quick as I once was.
