Does the gift wrapping affect how you feel about being given a gift? Submitted By amester26, NC
Yes, it shows the giver put extra thought into it.
Not really, I'm just happy to receive a gift.
I would rather it was left unwrapped!

Like that it is wrapped but doesn't have to be fancy. Always grateful someone took their time to shop and think of me.

It is the thought that counts, but I would look twice at a gift if it was wrapped in newpaper.

It depends on the gift wrapping ability of the individual doing the wrapping. I love it when my kids wrap, but it's definitely not pretty. As long as someone wraps and tries, no matter how it turns out, I'm happy.

When I wrap up gifts, it makes the giving all the more exciting. I love the anticipation of the person unwrapping it. I also absolutely love unwrapping gifts!

I find gift wrapping to be a huge waste of resources. However gift giving/receiving isn't about me so I don't let it affect me!

Paper is a renewable resource and it's recyclable. You don't have to worry about the world running out of paper anytime soon ;).

In my city (Winnipeg), wrapping paper and tissue paper are not recyclable, because they often contain a mix of different materials, like wax or metal. These impurities reduce the quality of the final product, so they do not recycle them.
Because of this, any wrapping paper put in recycling bins just ends up in the landfill like the rest of the garbage. :(

Unfortunately, the rate with which we are consuming our natural resources is not equal to the rate with which they are being renewed. If the trees could grow as fast as they can be cut down, then it would be a different story... But alas, deforestation is a sad fact in our world today. :(

I avoid using wrapping paper myself and would prefer people to use more environmentally friendly forms of gift decoration, such as putting the gifts in reusable bags, boxes, or containers or wrapping them in cloth. That way gifts can still look very nice, but not at extra expense to our natural resources. :)

Let just see whats inside wrapping paper is urging us to open open let me come out. so thats why people look for attractive designs on papers so the receivers will quickly grab their ones.

It doesn't matter to me but I do like wrapping gifts- especially creatively. I really liked it when my mom gave my daughter a birthday gift and the wrapping was a beach towel.

if its the thought that counts, wrapping paper shows more thought. i could give u a gift like a box of shoes and will u say i put more thought into that or if i wrapped it up? i couldve given the gift to u without much thought, wrapping it up just shows a little bit u know?

Considering how many people get things gift wrapped at stores or before shipped, I can't see how the wrapping shows anything more than that someone was willing to drop more money to make it seem like they care more.

Really? I like whatever my 5 year old gives me, whether he wraps it or not. The thought is the gift, not the wrapping.
Krystal3733
on 11/03/13
Well, he's only 5. It's not like he can drive to the store, purchase wrapping paper and a gift, and wrap it all by himself...So, I don't really think that counts.

It doesn't make any great difference to me. I get gifts so rarely that getting one at all is just lovely. I hate to wrap presents I give, though. It always seems like such a huge waste of paper to me.
Krystal3733

Paper is a renewable resource and it's recyclable. Also, if it makes people happy, then it's not a waste.
tmorsesb

It doesn't affect how I feel. Personally, I can't wrap gifts (or at least, not well) because of medical issues, but that doesn't mean I care less about the recipient. I'd be a hypocrite if I felt slighted by a gift that wasn't wrapped.

It doesn't matter if it's wrapped well. I know some people who wrap gifts really badly, and it puts a smile on my face. I know that they at least tried.

It adds presentation value and the element of surprise. Practically speaking it doesn't mean anything, but humans aren't exactly the most practical creatures to walk the Earth.
