One time only and that will be the last. I was looked as a cheap person. I was just trying to be sweet.

When I was a kid I would make them as presents to my parents. I didn't have money, so for their birthday here's a coupon for one free hug. Which meant a lot since I hate being touched.

As my mother began just closing her doors on the world after her husband of 50 years and her mother died within 6 weeks of each other, I began gently trying to pry her out of her house with coupons that promised an evening at a Little Theater performance with a copy of the season's schedule, or dinner out with a copy of the menu, or a day shopping with a map of the mall. She redeemed the Little Theater one first and as she got into the car, she handed me a very worn construction paper folder. She said, "You paid up on all of these so
i figured I had to do my part to see you could honor the new ones, too." The folder, so lovingly preserved all these years, contained all the coupons I had given her for various holidays when I was a child. Each one was marked Redeemed in my childish scrawl. When she died, I found that folder in her desk with all the new ones tucked inside and each marked Redeemed in her nearly indecipherable script.

This made me tear up a lil bit. Precious & few are those tender moments in life. Cherish them all....even the ones that have us struggle. They make us who we are. Hugs hun.

I'm a school teacher and I had the children make a coupon booklet for mom and dad on their days. The coupons would say, "Good for taking the garbage out", "Good for one hour of watching a sibling", "Good for picking up sticks and debris in the yard".....you get the idea. They could only put down something they were willing to do without pay or grumbling. It always went over well with the parents and the children felt good because they had a "real gift" to give.

I got a book like that from my kindergartener. He was SO proud of it, he couldn't wait for me to open it! I had to open it Friday night before he went to bed because he couldn't wait any longer for me to see his gift.

Why can't you just do these nice things for people (back rub, cooking dinner, etc.)? Why do they need to cash in their coupons for them?

Giving a personal coupon as a gift is a special and a unique way of getting someone a gift. I did one for my dad when I was younger on father's day!

it is nice to give someone pleasure and relax them. I even massaged my husband's feet. He was a 26 year veteran and then became a letter carrier for the post office. He more than earned it.
