I had candy to give out but not one kid came... I miss old Halloween where I could run around my neighborhood with my brother and mom arguing at who got to ring the doorbell, catch up with the neighbors, and feel the great sense of pride when people would open the door and tell me how great my costume was! Now I never went outside of my neighborhood and if I did I would go to my friends neighborhoods. I never had anything suspicious put into my candy but my mom would always check for anything that looked suspicious before I was even allowed to eat anything. I also had one Halloween where a friend took me to a community trick or treat event where we waited in long lines to finally walk past a table where someone would slide a piece of candy to you across the table. Long story short it sucked and I definitely prefer the traditional trick or treating ;)

The only candy I gave out was to people I knew.

The only candy my kids will be eating is the candy I give them myself. Too much stuff is happening in this cruel world today.

i used to dress up and go trick-or-treating as a kid. and we gave out candy at our house too. but as the years went on and my younger siblings now are trick-or-treating age, we find that no one really does it much anymore. and we stopped giving out candy at our house. i barely any trick-or-treaters around my neighborhood tonight, and almost no one had their porch light on. i feel like it's not as popular as it used to be. more and more people are just going to halloweeen parties and festivals and stuff instead of the door to door thing. at least, that's what i've observed.

People are going to trunk or treats now. We live really far in the country and no one wants to do the door to door anymore. We never get any :'( I guess since it's just not safe anymore people have stopped doing that kind of stuff. Even Christmas lights at my house, they are never seen. But we decorate anyway :)
Sandy53
on 11/01/13
It is still popular where I live, so are Christmas lights. I think it's ironic that churches that preached against Halloween for years are now taking it over.
Kmomtotwins
on 11/01/13
I think that was their goal. If they can control it and/or profit from it, it's a good thing. But if they feel like it is out of their control, it is baaadd... Eviiilll... LOL.

We never have trick or treaters out here where I live. Trunk or treat is popular here since it's not safe going door to door anymore. :(
Sandy53
on 11/01/13
It is perfectly safe going door to door. It's never been not safe. There have been no reported cases of children poisoned or drugged by trick or treat candy. There have been very few cases of razor blades or metal objects, most were done by family members as a prank. More children are killed in the parking lot of grocery stores every year, but we don't stop taking our kids shopping. Stop fear mongering.

No one comes this far out to us either :( I get so sad every year since we don't have trick or treaters. I like seeing the costumes and creativity and the smiles on their faces when they get their candy. But my Granna in Piedmont gets lots of them

I was the one walking around with the kids - and unfortunately we couldn't hand out candy this year - my husband works in the city and didn't get home until after we walked through the while neighborhood. Didn't have anyone that could do it for me. But we had a great night. It was 60 degrees - no wind, but it was raining lightly. Is rather be warm and slightly wet than freezing my butt off. All in all a great - albeit a tiring night. Was super excited with my sons costume. He went as a zombie and it came out incredible and it only took me a total of two hours to create and apply and the best of all - it cost me nothing. We stopped with the prefab costumes the past few years - now that my kids are a bit older. I think that it works when they are little - but it's much more fun to create your own when they're a bit older. Kids had fun - that's all that matters. =}

I'm giving out Rice Krispie Treats. I got a great deal on them and we don't get many candy beggars. The two I've had so far complained and did not say thank you. Over it. Parents, please teach your kids to get in the spirit of Halloween... if they are going trick-or-treating they should at least have a costume on, say "Trick-Or-Treat", and say "Thank you".

Wow, how ungrateful! Maybe it wasn't "candy" per se, but who says you had to give them anything at all? If any kids are reading this: Please, even if the person gives you something you hate, say thank you. Say thank you, then throw the item in a trash bin, but still at least say thank you.

I agree MrGooglehead. More parents need to teach their kids how to say thank you for what ever they are given even if they do not like it. I took my kids trick or treating and an elderly lady told me my three were the only ones who told her thank you. It is a shame how some kids today have no manners at all.
