No insurance ticket. Talked him into letting me go pick it up from my house. I forgot to put the new card in the glove box.

I've thankfully not been pulled over for speeding. I tend to keep my speed between 1-8 miles over the speed limit depending on the flow of traffic and current traffic conditions.

I know, I felt bad for him he didn't tell me what he did wrong but I knew. I told him I knew what he was doing and what he did wrong and not to worry he's not the first and certainly won't be the last rookie to do that. There are times you know something is happening and your dad is involved and wonder if he's going to make it home alive. I just saw a pic of my dad as a rookie I barely recognize him. LOL

You're right it's not easy being a cops daughter especially in the small town (Police force was 11 people) where I grew up. Down here in Fort Lauderdale it's so dangerous. He's been shot at so many times, once it shattered the windshield and he got glass in his eye, out of work for 4 weeks.

So are you supposed to be above the law because you're related to a police officer?

If you don't want your dad getting upset for getting a ticket, you...shouldn't speed. It's pretty easy.
besttwins
on 04/11/13
Did you not read I never got pulled over again for speeding which was over 20 years ago. I suppose you never caught yourself going over the speed limit. I was 4 miles over the speed limit in a 55 MPH zone. No I don't think I'm above the law! The cop is the one that didn't give me the ticket. I was 4 miles over which they will usually allow up to 10 miles over for civilians in a 55. My dad was a sergeant and the cop called my dad even though I was 20 yrs old. I have respect for the police and did not beg him, cry, flirt or lie to him. Everyone else uses those tactics do they think they are above the law because they cry on demand? I never said I didn't deserve the ticket because my dad is a cop.

Just so you know Castlesburning, My dad is a LT in the PD and I have a lot of friends that are Police Officers. It is not her who thinks she is above the law. She is doing no wrong. It is technically the officer who is not obeying the law. 1- their is a lot of things that you don't know about police officers and what their families have to go though. 2 - you don't know how much over the speed limit she was going, with that in mind some cops will let you go if ur going any wheres between 1-10 miles over the speed limit. some PO's can careless and just wants to pull someone over to do paperwork cause they are so bored at work and they want to kill time. So yes, cops can pull u over going 1 mile over the speed limit, but they will usually let you off with a warning between 1-5 over the limit.
spiritualangel

I agree with you on this. I don't have any police in my family but my friends do. They go WAY out of there way to protect us.

I do know PO that will give you a ticket if ur going 1 mile over the limit. 3 - no need to get jealous, cause it has happen to me a number of times. a few time i had to pay, other times i took the PO to court and got it taken off my record. 4 - It is not always easy having 1or2 of ur parents being PO's especially as being a daughter of one!!!!

I have been driving for 35 years andf I forever thankful that I have never gotten a ticket or pulled over for speeding. Once when I was about 20, I ran a red light in front of a State Policeman. He pulled me over and asked me if I knew what I did. I told him the truth that I was going to fast to stop and if I did stop I would of stopped in thed middle of the intersection and would either cause an accident or tie up the traffic. He thanked me for being honest (he laughed when I said this), and let me go even without a warning.

Is that supposed to mean that you can do whatever you want? The law is the law, regardless of who you are.

I'm disabled myself...I would never, ever presume to think that having a handicapped hangtag means an officer ought to turn a blind eye when I'm doing something I know I shouldn't be doing.

I was going with the flow of traffic and I think he pulled me over because my car is beat up. The ticket was for 6mph over the limit. In Los Angeles. Really?! How about those peeps in front driving Mercedes, BMW, etc, speeding 15mph over AND rolling stops. They could afford the ticket far more than me. I did call a cop out twice though (again, I think they pick on me because my headlights are broken but still work)- the first time he told me that my back license plate light was out (IT WASN'T!) and the second was that I rolled through a stop and went past the white line (I DIDN'T) but the officer just told me to 'be careful, you could get a ticket for going past the line.' No mention of the supposed 'California Roll.' I've had good experiences too, once with a "Hey your brake light is out, fix it quick!' All times I was pulled over was in nicer, "rich" areas. Hmm...
SavaFiend76
on 04/11/13
Cops don't ticket based on who can "afford" it or not - if you're in violation, you're in violation. 6 mph over IS a bit picky, I'll agree. And how can your headlights be broken but still work? Either they're broken or they work. If they sometimes appear to not be working, then yes, you can and will get pulled over for that!
nevroth
on 04/10/13
Just to add, I don't believe I was going 6mph over, maybe 2 or 3. He wouldn't let me see the scanner and I've been told (from friends that are officers that 5mph over is generally accepted. There are more than enough people doing 10 to get pulled over). It was a busy one lane street with cars in front and behind me, so I think he just singled me out on my car.

I chose Other, because I've never been pulled over for speeding, but I've been pulled over. Once in a winding road through the hilly forest when I was turning on my highbeams when no cars were around, and off when they were. A policeman pulled me over claiming I was signaling that he was there (news to me!) I don't remember the details, but what he was saying made no sense, because he was parked in front of me, and therefore I could not have been signaling about his presence even if I were the type of person who did that (who does that?) I think he may just have been looking for excuses to find drivers under the influence, which I suppose it understandable, but he scared me to death.
bluela
on 04/10/13
(cont'd) Another time I was pulled over because I made a right turn and didn't turn into the rightmost lane. The lane existed only for one block and I actually thought it was parking spaces, which it was, but only for certain hours of the day. I think that guy was just a jerk! But I have been over deliberate about doing it perfectly ever since. People think I'm nuts.

I meant that people think I'm overcautious to the point of pandering nuttily to the driving rules---and I should have said that neither of the times I was pulled over did I get a ticket. I don't think they would have given me one, because in one case I didn't do anything at all, and the other time it was iffy and rather understandable.

A funny from college days: I worked a work study job at the historical museum on campus. Campus was surrounded by a weird mix of one-way streets and I got confused one morning and ended up going the wrong way, and was stopped by a cop before I could turn around. When I saw his name badge, I realized I had just written him a nice thank you letter for donating an antique typewriter to the museum! I mentioned it and went on and on about how much we appreciated his kind donation, and he just told me to watch the one way streets and let me go.

I got my first car on a Thursday (early graduation gift) and pulled over on the following Saturday. I was trying to beat my curfew and had to drop my friend off before going home. To say I was panicking is an understatement. (My parents would have taken my car - rightly so.) The officer gave me a warning after I told him my story. It also didn't hurt that my friend knew him. :-)

same here... I just recently avoided one because noone was around me and I told him I had no idea my speed due to having nothing to guage it by and so he let me go. :) In addition in the state of CA the speed limit is advisory in nature so it is not absolute and if you can prove you were not a hazard for the conditions etc.... then you can often get it dismissed if you do receive one but I try to imply this when speaking with a cop and they often will not ticket me then as they do not want to go to court and lose. One officer thought he had it in the bag due to a child development center being down the road a ways but I got him to admit there were no people, animals or even any other cars on the road at the time he pulled me over and he lost as a result. He was SOOOOOOO Mad! He kept trying to argue with the judge after his ruling. :)

I contested a ticket once; the officer didn't show and it was dismissed.

I was pulled over once (but not ticketed) for going faster than the cop (72 vs 70 in a 65 zone). I was very grateful I didn't get a ticket but immediately voiced on Twitter how it (LOL) must be okay then to go 80 in a 65 zone as long as the cop is going faster.
