But... Why? If you do not like what you see, disregard it. Unless it is clearly malicious and derogatory, you CAN ignore it. Most times I get things flagged because I'm being blunt. Like... You really expect me to go full in-depth on what I mean with a 500 (or whatever) character limit? I don't think so! Honestly, some people need to chill and take a step back. You do not know (again, unless it is blatantly obvious) whether someone posted something with the intent of it being offensive, so chill. Use a little common courtesy. If you don't understand something, ASK.

I agree. Life is too short to be so touchy. I've noticed more than anywhere on this site. People freak out over a poll question, for Pete's sake. My favorite is "this is too personal", like we all know how they voted or something. hahaha

Maybe the advice to "chill and take a step back" is better for you to try. I am one of those super-truthful people, too but I can't see what would be a subject here that could make you want to law down the law and be blunt. Sometimes you are better off just not reading the darn posts. :)
Actually, I created Facebook and Twitter accounts with an alias so I can really speak my mind without burning too many bridges. I used to just post with the customized feature that allows only me to see it...let's just say that THAT feature doesn't always work.

Trust me, darling. I have taken several steps back. It is not a matter of "laying down the law" and being blunt. I'm blunt and to the point about nearly everything. There is no point for idle words that no one wishes to read, especially online. No one likes walls of text (unless you're like me and into reading a lot).

I didn't read that as condescending or rude. I read it as a common phrase that's used often. S/he probably didn't even consider that it could sound condescending or rude if used in certain ways if that wasn't their intention.

However your take on it does remind me of a time someone online got angry and me for calling them ma'am while replying to them. My intent was to be polite and out of habit because of a where I live, I was typing as I thought the words, but they just wanted to find something to jump on another about....

I disagree. I do not feel his initial comment was belligerent but rather something he felt was relevant to the daily poll, which is what the commenting here is for.

From reading though the comments I also feel that you do seem to have an axe to grind by continuously jumping on this same person. I understand you may be having a bad day, and hope tomorrow's is better if that is the case. However, I have yet to see this individual comment in a way that justifies this sort of aggressiveness towards him.

Communication is a two-way (at least!) street. Own your part of it. That's all I meant up above, but you kept going after me (again, I'm the one who needs to chill out?.)

How is it "butting in" to participate in a conversation on an open, public message board?
(Hint: It's not.)

Your rudeness was quite relevant to our ongoing conversation and helped prove my point. You can (and apparently have) chosen not to see that...but the bottom line is this: When you get flagged (whether it's one time or 200 times), maybe - just maybe - it has something to do with the way you're expressing yourself. Maybe, just maybe, it's not 100% everyone else's fault and 0% of yours?

However, since it is highly unlikely, as we have never spoken before this incident, I must kindly request that you to back off because I feel as though you are being highly aggressive towards me without real cause. Also, I would just care to point out that I am not using "bluntness" as an excuse here. So you're calling me out is highly unnecessary. And I mean no harm here, but you know nothing about me other than that which you read here. Which does not say much other than that I call people by pet-names.

I'm perfectly calm. I'm simply responding to the unreasonable ranting that unumalesangeli started, and his/her (I'm not sure) complete unwillingness to accept any responsibility for his/her comments.

And I meant what I said. I find it dismissive and inappropriate for strangers to call me "sweetie" or "darling" It makes me uncomfortable. And I know I'm not alone in feeling that way. So for someone to call "everyone" by pet names and not account for the possibility that this might not always be appropriate is exactly what I called it - obliviousness.

There is a difference between,
"Most times I get things flagged because I'm being blunt." and
"Most of the times that I get things flagged are because I'm being blunt."
The first says that you get things flagged often while the second says that "when" you have been flagged (could be 20 times or only 2 times).
Clear communication "sometimes" helps avoid misunderstandings. Then there are the PC people who are offended by anything with which they don't agree or like, whether it is the content or delivery. Personally, I TRY to ignore the person and the delivery and focus on the content to see if it has value to me. If so, I am now a richer person, if not, I disregard it and move on. I wish I could say I was always successful in my efforts.

Again, for the record, I never accused unumalesangeli of getting flagged a lot. I merely said "IF he/she is getting flagged a lot..." Because I have no idea how many times he/she has been flagged.

Unumalesangeli then repeatedly took offense for being accused of being flagged a lot.

The main point here is that one person's "blunt" is another person's offensive, and if you don't want to be flagged for that, think about how you express yourself online. It's pretty amusing to me that this is somehow a controversial point.

So true. We all need to practice intellectual honesty. You don't flag something as offensive simply because it is not your opinion. What do you gain from flagging something inoffensive as offensive, anyway? Nothing. But you gain some character by being able to discern the difference between truth (you were not offensive, I just don't like your viewpoint) and dishonesty (you were offensive just because I don't like your viewpoint).

I think the point that is trying to be made is that a lot of things that shouldn't be flagged do get flagged for frivolous reasons. If they started making people put down a valid reason for flagging it, there would be a lot less things under review. There wouldn't be an option for differing opinions, which seems to be the biggest reason things get flagged. It would cut back on the admins time not having to sift through all the nonsense comments.

Although I personally do NOT "judge," I DO follow an extremely reasonable level of common sense, kindness and respect. If one disrespects me in any way THEN, and ONLY then, do they get the an attitude in return.
Before I go on I should say that you've not been disrespectful nor did you show any negative attitude... So I'm replying positively with the exception of the last sentence of your comment as it's not necessarily true.
I actually get 'bullied' WAY too much online due to the fact that people would rather start with me as opposed to remain respectful. Using your wording, they use their guidelines of right and wrong or true/false or whatever.

However, it *is* Swagbucks' right to decide whether to leave posts up or not. It's their site. People who flag comments do so to alert SB of a possible violation of posting guidelines. If people flag frivolously, SB doesn't remove the comment. It's really not that bad of a system if you actually stop and think about it.

Instead of focusing on things such as flagging, why don't they make it so we have the option of people adding us? I want a feature that blocks people from friending me on this site. If people are getting offended by comments, stop reading them but, Swagbucks should focus on the real issues, like privacy.

I only get flagged because I forget and post my home phone number 867-5309 all the time... I don't know why I do that... I wish my keyboard had a Backspace key.

HEY PEOPLE, I'm looking through the comments, and the people are talking about people being rude, are being rude! I think everyone here needs to take a break from the internet for a while, go grab some waffles, read a book, take a mini house-vacation. The reason SB had this poll was to show that you should take a look at your comments for a while before you post them, yet all we're doing is blaming each other. Polls are here for fun, not in depth religious or opinionated debates. I'm not blaming anyone, we all get mad sometimes but please THINK BEFORE YOU POST!

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm almost scared to post here because of the arguments people get into!

I knew this, because it's usually the comments that people disagree with that goes "under review."

Well I'll be commenting less now I don't want to give other members the opportunity to be mean spirited just because they can, personally I think a good healthy disagreement makes things fun I would never flag another member because disagree that's not right in fact I hope the SB team decides to change the members can flag rule & instead make it so they are the only ones allowed to remove or flag comments because I think the SB team would be more fair.

SB IS the the only one who can remove the comments. After they review it and find it fine it is unflagged.

That sort of makes the fact that members can flag less annoying but still I've never seen a comment get unflagged, so you never know for sure if it will be unflagged.

I don't know if this is always the case, but tons of comments that were flagged this morning are unflagged now.
