You speak as if capitalism is a bad thing. The reason you have a computer to do this poll is because of capitalism. The reason John Lennon is famous is because capitalism allowed him to be extremely successful. Give me a break! Are you being brainwashed in school to think capitalism is bad??? Think for yourself.

he was nothing near a capitalist, just look at the lyrics to IMAGIN. No wonder why the US government investigated him.

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one

I know who John Lennon was, but wish I didn't. As a friend remarked when I asked his opinion of Lennon, he seemed "created," poured into a pre-set mold. I don't like rock, but at least James Morrison for one had some substance to him. Lennon had nothing to him.

As the daughter of a man in the music business, I grew up listening to The Beatles! My childhood would not be the same without them and John Lennon! I am sad to say that most people my age (I'm 22) may know who he is, but they have never listened to his music!

Let's see if people know or care who Justin Bieber is in 30 years. Think Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block or NSYNC. How dare you have the audacity to compare Justin Bieber with Lennon or the Beatles. I doubt anyone will care about the songs that Bieber "sings" five years from now, let alone 50 years.

It doesn't matter to me if you know John Lennon. But, just to be fun, wanted to point out that Chuck Norris was born in the same year as John Lennon. Given your swag name, which I'm assuming you makes you a fan of Chuck Norris, it made me laugh that you said you were from a more modern generation. :) Of course, if you're not a Chuck Norris fan it's not as funny. Plenty of older people don't know who Justin Bieber is. It makes more sense to know an older person because then EVERYONE would know about him. Bieber is right now and some older people never listen to him. I can see how some younger people might not know about John Lennon but it's very hard to believe since he's talked about a lot and the way he died too. He's a large enough part of our history...

He's my Saviour too but John Lennon made that comment "off the record" when speaking to a reporter friend. If the reporter had kept it in context, you would have not only understood but agreed with him. Lennon's point was that they were so popular at their height that he felt some kids were more influenced by The Beatles then by Jesus. He did not mean it in the way that they were better but that Beatle fans had their priorities way out of whack. He was kinda disgusted by it actually. In the end, people assumed what you did, judged him, judged The Beatles, burned their records, had protests over it, slandered them and retaliated without getting all the facts. It's an easy fact to verify.
