Yeah, for one thing, I didn't expect that there were more females on this site than males. Well, maybe that was kind of expected but the difference is huger than I thought.

I'm a man, and I prefer having long hair over short hair.

I'm female, and I used to have boy-short hair at my mother's insistence until I was around 10. I HATED it. I wanted long hair so badly. There were several times people mistook me for a boy....once I was even wearing a PINK ruffled skirt. *sigh*

I had the same chilibowl haircut as a kid or as my mom would say the "Dorothy Hammil" haircut! I wanted long hair as a girl and when I grew it out in about 4th or 5th grade looked horrible..so I stick with chin length hair.

Ive never really had my hair shorter than my shoulders since I was a baby. I've cut my hair a couple years ago to my shoulders and have been growing it out ever since. Its now only a few inches from my belly button.

On a man I totally do! Men with short hair are so ugly to me, in my opinion. I think in my whole life, counting movies, video games, everything, I've only seen maybe 2 guys with short hair who were hot.

Longer hair on a guy is hot. But only some guys can pull off hair past their shoulders. The current trend around here is either shaved or buzzed, blech. lol

I'm a female. I had short hair until the age of 13. Now, I have long hair until I cut it off every few years to donate to Locks of Love.

I'm a female and I've only had short hair. I have reallly curly hair and it doesn't really grow down. There should be an option of only short hair for women.

Never boyshort, but I've had it chin-length, which I am sure would count. But most of my life it's been about shoulder blades (top mid back) length.

Below your shoulders. Basically if you're growing it out, it's long (even if it's not that long) and if you've cut it to above your shoulders, it's short.
jtippetts
on 11/07/13
Idk. I consider shoulder-length to be long
morimunda

I consider that "medium" length. Mine is half way down my back so anything past the shoulders is long to me.

I'm female, and I've had my hair rather short as well as very long. I prefer to have it short. It's just easier to deal with, and I live in an area that can get over 100 degrees in the summer.

Male and have had long, curly hair for years. But, think I might finally go have it cut off and donate it to locks of love hair place since I'm finally getting a thinning patch in the top/center.
Going to miss the attention from those of the opposite sex, however!! Guess I'll have to grow a big beard and let birds nest in it, now.

I have had it as short as my shoulders and it has been to my knees at one point. All my children are male and there is no way I would let them have long year until they are old enough to make the decision themselves and take care of it properly. Hopefully they will not want long hair. I don't think, especially small boys should have long hair, or young girls should have short hair.

My hair went from the back of my knees to shoulder length. It was quite a change but it worked out! And when the girl cutting my hair said "WOOPs you just wanted a trim didn't you?" I said " OOPs guess I'm not paying for this hair cut am I" LOL

I have long hair now but I went bald during chemo. I didn't wear a wig, just a ball cap sometimes. It did make me aware of stereotypes about hair length though. There were a couple times in the winter when I was covered up in dark, unisex looking clothing and no makeup with a cap on to workout and was called sir or man. I know they didn't mean anything by it and were mortified when I spoke and they realized they were mistaken, but it made me much more aware of not greeting people with gender specific words if I have any doubt about their gender.

I've never had a pixie cut, but it's been too short for a pony tail. It's enough for a short pony tail now, but I'd like to grow it and then donate it.

My hair used to be super long - a little past my waist. But that was because my mom never let me cut it. When I turned 18 I "rebelled" and cut it to should length.

I am a female and I still have short hair. I don't look good with long hair. I like short hair because it is easier to take care of and can brush real quick and go.
