We open 1 gift for the family (a new board game) on Christmas eve. Then spend time playing the game and enjoying each other. On Christmas Day we open our other gifts, then my extended family has a progressive dinner where we go to different family members houses. My dad does appetizers, my cousin does the dinner, and my aunt did the dessert this year. The dessert house is also where we do a white elephant gift exchange with all our extended family!!!

This has been a family tradition since my mother was a child. We take a ride to look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve, and when we return home, Santa has been to our house!

It's a waste of time debating reasons for Christmas and if it has pagan roots. Who cares? I'm not going to waste my life or energy on this squabble any more. Enjoy your life and your families. Stick to your own beliefs and convictions.

No body knows the exact day of Jesus birth, but December 25th has been set a side to remember and celebrate our Lord's birth. What happened to Jesus is the Reason for the Season? I just don't get it, how it is o k for people of non Christian beliefs to openly practice their religions in public? but it unexceptionable for a for a Christian to openly practice their faith in public , pray in public with out criticism, because they might offend someone. Why should we have to say Happy Holidays, because we might offend someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas, GET OVER IT! So I say to everyone out there, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

No Christian is criticized for publicly praying on their own time. However, watch what happens when a Muslim stops and prays one of the 5 times he is required. Or watch what happens when people discover a pagan ritual taking place in a park. Meanwhile Dec 25th was picked because of Mithra. It was Mithra's birth and convenient enough to appropriate because those darned Romans just couldn't let go their pagan practices. Reason for the Season is actually the Winter Solstice, there wouldn't be winter without it. The Reason You Celebrate can be Jesus or commercialism, I couldn't care less. Finally, Happy Holidays is for people who work in RETAIL. Because retailers are damned stupid to ignore the many other holidays that take place in the month of December. Get over it yourself.

Dec 25th is also the Feast Day of Frau Holle. Completely innapropriate to wish someone Merry Christmas when they don't celebrate and honor Frau Holle that day. If you know someone celebrates Christmas that's one thing. Generic wishes that are meant to include everyone shouldn't be divisive.

I look around me and think "things could be better". I don't have any of my childhood family to celebrate with anymore. My cat (who I love like a child) is in the vet clinic recovering from dental surgery). But my husband is with me and we had a very tasty lasagna and salad for Christmas "dinner" (at 11am). Those I love are still alive even if they cannot all be with me. That is all that truly matters.

Here is hoping you are having a great day!

And don't forget to hug the ones you love.
