We should support small businesses or there will no longer be choices except like WalMart. I shopped small businesses on Saturday but did not know it was small business Saturday.

I have a TV and I do watch it, but to be perfectly honest, I've never seen any commercials for Small Business Saturday. If I had I would of been supportive of it, my late husband had a very successful small business. He was in skilled trades when he worked at GM,machinist. After he retired, he opened his own machine shop design & build. When the economy started to fall and GM closed factories, his business started slowing down the same with a lot of small businesses in our state and he started having health problems so He closed the business in 2007. We sold out the business, building and contents in 2009 at public auction. I'm so glad we did that while he was still living, because he knew what all the machinery and tools was worth. One year after we sold everything, he passed away.

I am very sorry also, it is always so sad when your loved one passes. In your case sounds like he wanted to take care of things while he was still alive, so he wouldn't leave unfinished business (his tools and machinery) all unto your shoulders. Sounds like he was very responsible and loving husband. Hope you're doing OK and have a nice coming Christmas. :)

It makes me sad to see so many people don't know what Small Business Saturday is. It just goes to show the corporate sellouts are winning, we need to spread the word that it's the little guys who put money back into the community in which we live which raises everything around us. Raises morale, hope, community awareness, community support, people dont' realize it raises the values of so many thing including your homes. Putting money back into the community in which you live should be a civil duty, one of which everyone should want to participate to see their towns/communities, citizens thrive. This is the reason why as a nation we are struggling, the big guys are forgetting who & where they all got started. If it werent' for small businesses, these big businesses wouldn't have a foot to step in. Read more about it everyone and take upon yourselves to go out and create your own small business saturday in support of your community. In support of you!

I usually support small business but I had no idea there was a day just for them. The reason why its hard is because sometimes small businesses take advantage of people more so or on par as the chain/big ones.

I love small businesses, but lately I find that even small business owners are largely just chasing a buck. Our favorite bakery closed its storefront and is now wholesaling to high end restaurants. Great for them, but we lost the pleasure of walking by after school to pick up a fresh pastry for a snack or a bag of rolls for dinner. Visiting the "bakery" at Safeway isn't the same experience. The salon owner we pateonized for 7 years through two moves and even during his remodeling, converted to a "boutique" so his services begin at $300.
