No preference, really, I actually love the thought put into something homemade but there are so many cool things nowadays, that I wish I could afford!

It is the thought that counts, but most homemade gifts you can't really use . They sit around the house and collect dust.

I just don't have a preference. I enjoy a gift when it's given to me, but I don't ask for them.

I wouldn't. I mean, stuff is cool and all, but I hate trying to figure out all the social aspects of it. But that's just one freak's opinion.

Exactly. It shows the person actually cares AND the worst gift is just giving money or a gift card as anyone can do that.

But what if you aren't artistically inclined? :( And my best friend has everything she could want, I know because I've tried to get her music & movies & I have to return things because she already has them. I feel guilty giving her money but I can't sew or draw or make crafts to save my life (Oh I've tried & I'm STILL trying) I can't speak for everyone but some people do care even if they only give or cash or gift cards.

I have received a hand made patchwork quilt, two dozen chocolate cookies, a hand made fisher knit sweater, and many store-bought gifts, and dozens of gift cards. I cannot designate any one as my favorite gift or type of gift because every gift I have received was made or chosen for me with a heart full of love. And yes, there are people who don't want gifts. My son is one of those. He believes that any possession above need is greed.

You act as though "cool" and "homemade" are mutually exclusive.

If that is the case, then I pity you for not knowing any interesting or talented people.

No preference if its from kids or younger people, but I'd rather receive a cool purchased gift unless the gifter is really good at DIY crafts. Cash/ prepaid cards are best though :D

I really don't have a preference...it's just if it's a homemade gift that's really bad like noodle earrings or something than no thanks. Although, if the gift was homemade from my little niece or nephew that was like 5 or younger than I would accept it out of love because their little <3 But cool purchased gifts are nice too (:

I agree! In fact, it make this is kinda a hard question to answer because the truth of the matter is who the gift is from really determines what kind of a gift is best. Well, to me anyway.

I think that just the gift doesn't matter. There are other factors, like: who is giving the gift, what their financial situation is, or why they're giving the gift. So I put no preference, since I think that the value of a gift depends on those factors.
