Most of the farmers markets in my area sell food that is practically rotten, I don't trust them to sell ACTUAL fresh food.

I said yes but really sometimes is what I meant. I don't always make it there before noon on Sundays, especially if I have worked really late Saturday night/Sunday morning.

I grew up in decent sized city (Suburb of St. Paul MN) then moved to rural WI when I got married LOVE IT! What bugs me though... some of these farmers come from St. paul/Minneapolis to sell there stuff in WI. Pisses me off. Now I have to look close at the licensing to make sure my LOCAL farmers market is actually LOCAL! Although, I buy my eggs from the farmer down the street, (and fresh chicken when the girls stop laying, ha!), he also sells his piglets to a friend of mine who raises them for us and slaughters in the fall to stock our freezer. On the other end of my street is the only place I'll ever buy sweet corn from. EVER. I also buy my beef from them if they have extra. Love my fresh food!! And pork tastes so much better when I know what it was fed and how it was raised!

I've never been to farmers market, we lived on a farm so we grew all our own veggies, had chickens so we had our eggs when the hens were laying. Now that I don't live on the farm, my daughter and her husband have beautiful garden. Today I caned green beans and tomatoes.

We go get all our stuff from a local garden and buy or barter fresh eggs off friends. My mom is BIG into canning so we have green beans, carrots, corn, potatoes, chicken, bacon, beans and ham, deer, roast and a few other things all canned. Glad I'm learning what I can from my mom before it's too late. Also glad that my kids are learning as well. : )

I get fresh eggs from my daughter's neighbor. My daughter also says she is glad learning what she can from before it's too late. I told her good deal, one of these days she can do the caning for me when I can't, like I did for my mother.

Nope. My local Farmer's Market is basically a tourist trap. Contrary to popular belief, the Amish have terrible baked goods and I don't need produce bad enough to get it there. The other Farmer's Market close by is usually cleaned out by the time I get there; you have to be there practically at dawn if you want the good stuff, and have the money and time for it.

The Amish in my neck of the woods are FABULOUS cooks!! We take trips out to their store/restaurant and it's worth every penny. Everyone has their own opinion though. I'm just sorry you had a bad experience : (

My grandparents were Amish who left the church, and I have to agree that many of the Amish have terrible baked goods.

It depends on which Amish and if they compromise or not. One of my friends toured a dairy farm and said it was NASTY, they kept the cows indoors ALL the time, fed them in a trough, stood in their own poo, and used electricity in their barn... jut not the house. Sounds like a compromise to me!

I haven't trusted the Amish since I found out their recipe for apple butter started with store-bought applesauce. And don't get me started on their pineapple jelly; there's no way that's local produce in KY.

I chose "no" because we actually have a membership (for lack of a better word) to a 10 acre garden and pick our own food. We also get fresh cheese and milk from there too. Everything naturally grown and fresh as fresh can be. : )
