Excuse me if you think a night nurse working instead of celebrating is unpatriotic! I work holidays so the nurses who have families and celebrate with their families. So from this one who isn't celebrating you can shove your shame and disgust where the sun doesn't shine. I am proud to be an American and don't need your approval.

don't forget about us who have to work for the holiday. That gives us NO time to celebrate or do anything special.... Remember, someone has to stock those hotdogs for you to buy!

What is disgusting is your attitude and ignorance! Who made you the authority on the correct way to observe the holiday? Not that I have to explain myself to you or anyone else for that matter but here goes. My Grandmother died on July 4th due to surgical complications, my great grandmother also passed away on the fourth after being hit by a drunken driver. So I am sorry my family and I have never felt the need to go out partying and getting drunk. Instead we sit at home and spend the day together quietly observing the holiday while appreciating the freedoms afforded to us by this great nation! However, your post displays the growing problem with people in the world in general. If everyone would stop thinking they know what is best/proper/correct for everyone else and start worrying more about themselves this whole world might be a better place and a little more free from conflict!

I would like to try to explain myself.... I merely meant that an American should take the time to remember our independence and take time to thank the Lord for it. I was not trying to put down people who do not have the opportunity to celebrate... only that they should not just consider it another day. And obviously, I was directing my comment to American's only. I am sorry about your Grandmother, and hope that you had an enjoyable day despite that sad memory. It was only my patriotic spirit that fired me into making the comment I did. I didn't want conflict, I just wanted to make a point. I do apologize for any frustration or hurt I have caused, but sincerely hope you take my real meaning.

Not everyone on Swagbucks lives in the United States. I have plenty of friends in the UK and Canada who use the site. Why would they celebrate our independence day?

There are also those that have been hit really hard by the economy and can't do anything for the 4th. Or it could be that there are people who don't have friends or family close enough to do anything with. My kids are grown so we don't light fireworks, we did that as they were young and enjoyed that and we did it primarily for them. Now that they are older, we grill our dinner and then watch a fireworks show together. I find it much less stressful.

We usually celebrate, but this year our children are not with us (long story), and it doesn't feel right to do our family traditions without them. I'm a Navy brat, but this year I will quietly observe the holiday.

Swagbucks is available in other countries besides the USA. Maybe a large percentage of the people who answered "no" are not in the USA, so , of course, they would not be celebrating on July 4th. :)

It use to be one of my favorite holidays but we just can't afford to do it anymore. Kind of glad my 9 year old is at his bio dads for it this year. That too though makes me sad. This has just become a lose lose situation for us. LoL even though not really funny but am all cried out right now. ;o)

Independence was sure a good idea at the time, but now Britain has health care and a more or less functional democracy so celebrating that we broke it off from them a few centuries back is a bit more irony than I can take.

seriously. You have no clue. Do you know how long you need to wait to see a doctor over there? Try talking to some people from there.
(btw, if you don't like it here, there are plenty of other places you can go)

I agree with you. A frd in Northern Ireland tells me how bad the health care system is there & said to me "you don't want this in The States"

Do you know how long it takes to see a doctor in the US if you have no insurance and no money to pay for it? Oh wait, you don't get to see one unless you are quite literally dying. I'd take a long wait for those in need over waiting until death's door any day.

I don't do anything on Independence day. If I did I will be wasting 24 hours every year of my life. There is a lot more events that don't get celebrated, and if we celebrate each major event. Then almost everyday there will be a Celebration. And I gotta tell you, that would be wasting a lot of my time.

You think this is a waste of time celebrating the day that America became America .if America wasn't independent you would be in a different place and probably different everything.
