Actually, Easter is almost MORE important to Christians than Christmas. Without Easter, and the death of Jesus, he might as well have oly been a prophet. It was the whole ressurection thing that cememnted him as 'the Son of God'.

Without Easter, Chrismas has no meaning! Good Friday, Jesus said, "It is Finished" and died, meaning His payment for our sin was complete. When he rose from the dead, it was proof that He has conquered death and we will rise from the dead also, whether that is to be to live for time without end with Him in heaven or to spend time without end with the devil in hell - and the devil will never be our friend. Glory be to Jesus!

I always go overboard at Easter and end up with bags full of candy that didn't make it into my kids' baskets. And every year I plan to not do that again, yet it happens every time. We'll be in sugar rushes for months.

Holidays have lost their meaning. It's all about spending money and buying goodies for family and friends. When it should be about spending time with loved ones and reflecting on the meaning of the holiday.

When did it start to giving gifts? The Easter bunny, candy & hiding eggs wouldn't bother me as much, if people celebrate why their is Easter. Jesus was crucified & rose from the dead, to save us from our sins, & spend eternity in heaven with God, not in hell for all of eterniity. John3:16. It is fun to celebrate with the children, just tell them what we are celebrating.
sammy0354

I don't understand why this came about. Easter is on a different day each year. This would mean Jesus would have to been crucified a different day as well? Please tell me how this makes since. At least Christmas is on the 25th of every year. Don't get me worng I believe there is a God. I just don't understand where everybody is getting Easter is the day Jesus rose from the grave.

thats sad that 44% didnt spend anything on easter. my kids are 16 and 23 and i make them an easter basket every year. i have never been one to buy the pre made ones, because they are not personal enough for me, so for the past 23 years, i have made easter baskets and my boys look forward to them each year. im hoping this is a tradition they will carry on with their own children in years to come. i think everyone has a little bit of a child in them and that makes the holidays worthwhile for me to see the looks on my boys faces when they get their "homemade" easter baskets.

I love making Easter baskets for my kids too :) I spent $500 to make seven baskets this year (one for each of my kids, one for my nephew, one for my mother, and one for my step-father). The kids need spring/summer clothes anyways so I put some outfits, swimming suits, beach towels, beach/summer toys, some chocolates from a local candy shop, and flip flops in their baskets each year. Then I add one toy they have wanted and plush animal. Yes, I know the religious meaning behind Easter but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy giving and getting baskets as well :)

The x-sil doesn't allow my niece & nephews to consume sugar so spending money on candy they can't have is pointless. I don't have kids & I'm not big on sweets so candy is a moot point. ;)

Judaism also has a commandment against worshipping idols, yet Christians pray to a man. If they are Jews, they're not very good at it.

That man is God manifest in the flesh. They pray to God. Lot of confusion on this thread with people erring not know the scriptures nor the POWER of God.

yep- Christianity was based from the Jewish religion. Christians recognize Jesus as the coming of the Lord, while Jewish faith sees Jesus as a prophet. And btw- Catholics *are* Christians

It's a little more complicated than that. The Jewish holy texts end with a bit of an anticlimax; God promises a messiah but never actually delivers it. Even a few thousand years before the internet, a popular but anticlimactic story produced a relative abundance of fan fiction from people who wanted to "fix" the canon ending and provide a more satisfying resolution, resulting in a plethora of stories about messiahs finally arriving. Eventually, one of those "fix fics" was picked up and became the basis of a new religion. It, the original from which it was derived, and several fan fictions written about it in turn were later consolidated to form a holy text for this new religion.

Less than $10. The stores were all packed and there wasn't much good stuff left, anyways. I'm just glad that I finally was able to get one of my grandmother's recipes from my mother. It's not just about the candy. Regardless of your religious belief, or lack thereof (so please don't come and give me the full history on the holiday, I already know it and do not wish to hear people preaching at me. Kay? K.). It's about hope, joy, family, love. So spend time with your fam.

Anyway, I won't preach at you folks. No, I did not spend any money on Easter candy. I have no money to spend, for one. And for two, I'm making candy/treats instead.
mgtheman

Let's see, I can think of three things Easter is about:

1. Candy
2. Pagan religious significance
3. Pagan religious significance with a respray job and the serial numbers filed off (aka, Christian religious significance).

If it's not about the candy and you're not involved with the religion, then what is it about?

You didn't spend money to buy the materials or the ingredients to make the candy and treats? It's possible you did not but at some point, somewhere, somebody had to purchase those things you are making your candy treats with. Don't act above it all and look down your nose at others.

I did not look down on others. I stated the facts as they were. I did not go out and buy the needed ingredients especially for this day. They were in my cupboard already, and even then I personally did not spend the money, my parents did. Again, no looking down at others, honestly. I can't just state the facts without getting chewed out for it? Hum... That sucks. Being blunt and to the point is not the same as being blatantly rude. I'm sorry if I made it seem that I was "acting above".

you really cant express an opinion on any of these polls because people just get nasty about it. I don't think you were rude or acting "above it all". I didn't spend any money of my own either. My grandmother sent some money to get my kids some treats and thats what I did. The best part of our easter was coloring eggs and baking cupcakes with my little ones. I think family is enough, I hate being made to feel like I am supposed to spend money in order to enjoy a holiday. :) Hope you had a wonderful day with your family :)

It didn't sound to me as though you were. It sounded matter-of-fact to me. Although I too thought, "well, somebody spent something on the ingredients." But it would still be minimal spending, and none from you, which was your point about your personal spending this Easter. I too don't really see why everyone keeps telling everyone else what the celebration is about. Everyone's celebration may not be the same, or be about the same things, even if they call it by the same name.

Actually, your post does sound like preaching. But I'm going to add that if I were Jewish I would find the holiday some sort of blasphemy to my faith.

How do I sound like I'm preaching? By stating my opinion? Darn. I forgot I was not allowed to do such a thing. I understand that Jewish people might see it as a sort of Blasphemy, by celebrating the holiday, but if you're just taking the day to spend time with your family, I fail to see how you're straying from your faith. If you are not celebrating it for the Christian belief, but rather taking the day off and just doing things and being happy you are not straying from your belief. Or so I thought.
