Totally agree, it's better when you actually have the money to buy something

If you do it right, a credit card can actually help you save. There are so many cards out there with "rewards" - my favorite hobby is reading, so I use my Barnes and Nobel credit card for everything, pay the balance online once per week so there are never any interest charges, and I earn a $25 gift card to Barnes with the "points" you get for every charge you make. Also get 5% cash back (yes, they credit my charge account) on Barnes and Nobel purchases, other discounts, too.

So if you do your research you can find a card with no annual fee that really can earn you something, but you do have to be disciplined about only charge what you can pay. You can also build up good credit this way, too!

Credit card companies are scary they offer you credit & you make one mistake & your credit is ruined also they have so many hidden tricks & fee's

It's like they want you to mess up so you can't pay them, but sadly good credit is needed & there aren't many ways to rise ones scores without active trade lines if you want to buy a house or car or almost anything these day's you need good active credit.

as long as your paying when you should and dont miss payments then you fine. I Always pay my bills first before I do anything else. I am never late on payments. I have great credit

or use a credit card like shoppers optimum credit card and then use it to get the points but pay it off when you use it to get points on only buying the things you were already going to spend and then you don't go in debt from it

This poll makes little since to me. Maybe I'm thinking a little to much. I use my debit as a credit all the time, but I only use my credit card about once or twice a month. Just enough to keep them from canceling it. I can't just hit the 0 button for that though.

Not in their defense or anything, but people usually through themselves into debt. The credit card is the means of becoming in debt but it's not the main reason why debt happens.

A credit card is my backup plan in case I need something like car repairs and don't have all the money at once to pay for it. I have a savings as well but don't like to use that unless I have to. The card gets paid off in a month or 2 and all is well.

Not everyone who uses a credit card is in debt. I use mine for everything I can, pay it off weekly, and rack up thousands of points a year for free gift cards, hotels, flights, etc. I've never paid a dime of interest and have exceptional credit. You just have to use it properly.

I remember right after I graduated high school Chase called wanting me to get their card, don't know how they got my name or our phone number. I told them I didn't even have a job yet so I couldn't pay it off. The woman then says, "you don't need a job." ...?

I didn't think of it at the time, but I should of asked her if she was going to pay off any purchases for me.

Nope Never had one and DOn't need it..And it's against my religion to deal in interest. MAking the rich man richer and the poor poorer in my opinion. Even with self restraint I'd rather use my own money than borrow and be taken advantage of ( Debit all the way). My older MIL Always told save on the good days to have it when you need it on the bad days.. Till this day best advice i've ever received.

I don't tend to use a credit card. Still trying to pay mine off. Thankfully mine is just a credit builder type with a really small limit, but I've been out of work so I'm still struggling to pay off the $200 balance. :( Got it to get a little bit of credit built up after I tried using "Bill me Later" on eBay and couldn't due to the lack of credit. I generally prefer to pay with cash. Using cash I can see exactly how much money I have to spend on something. Plus when I was still employed and buying things regularly, saving up change was a nice way to get a little "extra" money at certain times. It adds up pretty quickly. ^_^

A credit card is a tool like a knife. You can use a knife for a bad purpose, so would you never have one in your house? They are not evil; you just need self discipline; if you have to money to pay cash, use the credit card, and pay it off with the cash, and get a reward for using the card, and come out ahead.
