We waste water, pollute it on the way to the ocean then try to clean it using energy and money, pollute the ocean, spend money and energy on cleaning the ocean, pollute it during delivery because of unsafe/unclean infrastructure, spend money on filters, we dry up the ground water supply (the whole environments cheapest, cleanest water supply) by wasting water and using non-permeable surfaces which don't allow refill, raise the global and domestic price due to high demand & shrinking supply, ignore the fact we water lawns instead of fruit/veggie gardens, we eat tons of meat in U.S. which pollutes water and also requires tons of water, pollute the water with 200 new chemicals from pharmaceuticals, flood it with hormones which are too small to filter and create huge changes in the body in very small doses, ignore droughts in other countries, rising world population, etc http://water.epa.gov/polwaste/nps/chap3.cfm

You did not challenge my arguments with any evidence. Perhaps I mentioned too much at one time and you had me confused with someone who is political. If anything I am sounding a little conservative, aren't I? :) I deal with facts. I left a link for you; it is for little kids who can't comprehend how their actions affect those around them and the future generations! Thank you for allowing me to look over your children's future so you don't have to! http://www.epa.gov/WaterSense/kids/whysave.html

There are many reasons to save water and restore infrastructure/aquifers:

Of course they didn't. It's because there is no actual evidence to dispute facts about the environments, just right wing propaganda that is even on the outs with most moderate Republicans. They can't handle the facts because the facts would reveal just how selfish they are being.

My husband does it and it drives me insane. I have been known to reach over and turn the water off for him. He grew up doing it and says it's more convenient. I grew up in California where there were constant droughts so it was something most everyone just did.

Ok, when you leave the water running, it goes down the drain, through the sewer system and back into the environment. It's not lost forever. It doesn't just disappear. The worst done is running it through the treatment plants.

When I was growing up, our home was on a septic system and we had our own well. We did not waste water, nor did we overload our system. It's a habit that stayed with me. I'm very conservative where water is concerned. My husband and I had our own well drilled on our place and the water turned out to be full of iron. We had to haul in water from a spring until we could get rural water piped in. When water is hard to come by, one learns not to waste it.

one day you might regret saying that! you know why people turn off the water while brushing their teeth? some states are in droughts and they need to conserve water so they do it by not flushing toliets(unless its brown),taking shorter showers etc.

I don't know about everyone else here but we have to pay for our water. It isn't free coming from out taps anymore so we are much more careful about how much we use. I don't even water the garden unless it is absolutely necessary. I let the lawn burn because it is too expensive for water. I remember when water was free. I let the kids play in the sprinkler. Those days are gone even though the river and lakes are still there. It is the pollution that is costing the towns and cities a fortune to keep everything clean. I used to be able to drink the water from the lake I grew up on because it was spring fed and so clear you could see the fish. Those days are gone.

wow I am surprised to see this is such an issue. if its such a big deal then those who are so concerned can just take a shower, brush their teeth and go to the bathroom all at the same time. Really? there are bigger problems then leaving the water running the worst that can happen, a bigger water bill.
