401k with company match (10%). Hubby and I have 4 savings accounts- Mine, His, Kids, and Ours. Mine and His are personal, meaning my name isn't on his and his name isn't on mine- for personal fun-no-questions-asked spending, it gets fed from left over money, birthday/mas $$ spare change etc. Ours is joint and we both have automatic deposit going into them with each check- for cars repairs, fridge crapped out, vacations. My name is on our childs account and that is fed strictly with Bday and Xmas $, BUT I match 100% of everything that gets put into it. If he rakes in $50 for Bday from Gma- I put in $50 too. Sounds complicated, but it WORKS!!! And we make less than $70k year combined and own a home and 2 cars. You can make it happen, but it takes WORK!!

Do they match ALL of that 10%? I wish I had that...

IN MANY HIGH SCHOOLS LIKE CITY COLLEGE HIGH seniors are required to study basic economics, financial investments, or bookkeeping/accounting. THIS STARTED BACK IN THE EIGHTIES. Now through the INGENUITY PROGRAM SPONSORED BY DR, BENJAMIN CARSON, KIDS LIKE MY SON PAUL INTERNED WITH PRIVATE COMPANIES LIKE THE MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES' UNION. PAUL STILL IN HIS EARLY TWENTIES BECAME THE MANAGER FOR BOA IN HUNT VALLEY supervising and training men and women 3X his age. PAUL'S BOSS TRAINED HIM TO REPLACE HIM BEFORE HE RETIRED. A Black man without a criminal record can go far in the banking industry.

At the present moment I am not saving because I have NO money to save! My fiance's salary goes to pay for our house and utilities. I just recently lost my job due to not being able to find reliable child care for my 2 small children and since I am not available to work 24/7 I do not qualify for unemployment swagbucks right now is my ONLY source of income at the moment but as soon as I get another job I do plan on saving something.

only way you can save half is that you still live at home with your parents or you are rooming with someone.
Because people with children and singel parents don't make money like that so that they can save half it would be nice however rare, unless you are bainking big salaries.

Or if you're self employed and you need to save that money for taxes at the end of the year.

I work really hard to, and now my savings every pay period are averagely healthy. It wasn't something I was able to do when I was younger (18 to 23), as I was living pay-check to pay-check and I had a very bad home situation, but it was something I did as a kid and as a teenager. It's not easy, but it's worthwhile in the end.

I tend to put away 700 every 2 weeks. Some of that is for retirement 75%, the rest is for the emergency fund and for future expenses that will come due like insurance which offers discounts if I pay it all at once. I also set aside money for items that have a limited useful life and will need replacement. Having the money before hand allows me to make a purchase in full during a sale to optimize my use of my savings.

I feel bad for your husband if he has a wife that will go online and trash him behind his back.

Because anything the husband does that is crappy is automatically justified because his wife complains about it. Right?

Perhaps it would be better for them to discuss this at home. Rather than on the internet. That's how things work between my husband and myself.
