What's up with the not having a Staples option?

Sometimes Office Depot, but more often Staples or Office Max because they're closer.

I have been boycotting Wal-Mart for several years. They built a super store in our small town several years ago, now our downtown is practically a ghost town. They shut down our Kroger which is where I always shopped and have put a couple of our drug stores out of business that had been open for several generations. And they treat their employees bad, underpaying them and too few hours to be eligible for benefits, let alone support a family. I shop elsewhere. Sometimes it will cost me a few extra dollars but usually by shopping sales and using coupons I can get a better deal that Wal-Mart.

Sorry but Kroger is not the best either . I work in one myself as a cashier . I only get 18 hours a freaking week and 7.40 hr . They don't want to give me hours telling me that Im slow scanning .I tried every method ,I triy to be the best with my costumers always tried to be nice with them and make them feel good and help in everything I can . Now how can I be faster if the damn drug gm and all the other department dont care about putting the right price ,or make sure that the damn promotion are happening like they should ! Then they have like 20 lane open and they dont want to open other lanes so they put me alone , one single register instead of a least 3 ! at least 3 ! costumer get mad about that !

That's too bad and good to know about when I make shopping choices. However, there are other stores in addition to Walmart and Kroger so people should not look at this as an oh well then Walmart is okay.

Walmart is terrible and rude. They treat their employees horribly as well - probably why they are all so grouchy. On the rare occassion I have to go there I always have some sort of problem arise - either refusing to take a coupon, refusing to price match (even with their big advertising campaign about their "low price guarantee) or not giving something that's supposed to be tax free on the tax free weekend and refusing to budge on it.. I avoid going there as much as possible.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a Walmart. My sister was abused by her husband, and those jerks FIRED HER for being bruised at work. I'd rather pay more than give them so much as a penny.

there are a couple of decent cashiers at the walmart by me. I try to go to them when I can. I always overhear employees complaining about their jobs at just about every store. even the good ones will complain sometimes because retail is the worst industry and our main source of jobs now. I remember when most stores were closed on Sunday and now it has become the busiest shopping day.

Most of the people who work at my local Walmart have been there since the place opened. Even the greeters. I guess it depends on the location. For people to stay that long, they must be doing something right. I don't usually need help, but when I do, I've never felt mistreated.

yeah, I try to stay out of Wal-mart. Ever since I seen a show where they revealed some stuff about them. I don't know if it's still true to this day, but they used to(or still do) have life insurance policies on their employees and on these policies they refer to the employees as "peasants". So walmart would get the money from the policy if that employee died.

It's not a Michael Moore film it's a Robert Greenwald film (at least the one I think is being referenced The High Lost of Low Price).

I worked there 11 years ago and I was happy with my pay. I may not have gotten benefits but a lot of jobs nowadays don't have them either. They were also very good about my work schedule because I had a baby at home. I hear so many people complain about it, but do they also boycott every other establishment that has low pay and no benefits? It's doubtful. I have worked in a few different places and only one offered benefits and I had to pay almost $100/ week for them. My employer didn't pay it for me.

Since we are rural...have only Walmart and a couple grocery stores...all these employers are cutting hours because of Obamacare...from 40 to 28 to get under the requirement to offer insurance...it is NOT just WalMart...do your homework!

walmart pays their workers the same if not a little more than our local grocery stores. Its so annoying when everyone blames walmart, they are not the only place that doesnt offer benefits. none of our local stores give 40 hrs or benefits. I guess because they are so big they are an easy scapegoat. But they pay more than a lot of places.

Do other companies specifically teach their employees to apply for welfare benefits?
KatieKat
on 08/19/13
The Army specifically taught us how to apply for welfare benefits. Maybe Walmart learned it from them.
triathlon29
on 08/22/13
The army isn't a company it is government. Therefore either way it is government money. Not the same with Walmart. It makes sense for the tax payer to support the army, it does not make sense for the tax payer to support employees at a company whose heads make massive amounts of money.

I worked in a factory making $9.50/hr and when I had orientation I was given an application for social services because they didn't pay benefits. So I am sure that walmart is not the only one that does that. whether they do or not isn't the issue. the issue is walmart is not the only company that doesnt provide benefits or a decent paycheck. But it gets the brunt of everyones hatred.

but Wal-Mart has been cutting hours for insurance breaks LONG before Obamacare...I used to work there. They treat there employees so crappy now. When I go in and see people that worked there when I did they either complain or don't even say hi because they are too worried about all the work the few people have to get done. NONE of them smile anymore.

If Walmart though had not come in there would have been more local stores with owners who would have been more likely to care about their workers who would not do such a thing to them.

Sadly this has happened in way too many towns. Walmart comes in and undersells other retailers and then once they put them out of business then Walmart raises their prices back up. People ultimately pay more in the end. But usually the worst effects are on the local economy.

Going to Highjack this thread. Very upset with Swagbucks for using Conduit for there search engine. Had a major problem with computer, refused to let Swagucks go, problem continued, this time I had to let Swagbucks go and have my computer cleaned out to the orginal status. Anyone else having this problem?

I haven't had any problems, but I also have never installed the toolbar--maybe that's the problem.
This sounds like an issue for Customer Service--at least you can get your complaint in and if enough people are inconvenienced, maybe something will change. Good Luck

I did but it wasn't actually a swagbucks problem it was a hijacker that attached itself to the toolbar/search engine. I could have gotten rid of it but it attacked my nortons. I eventually got rid of it by deleting the toolbar, deleting and reinstalling norton's after the reinstall it found and kicked out that pesky bugger!
