I personally prefer an actual book. Call me old fashioned, but I'm just one of those people.

These days I read more on my Kindle because I download a lot of the free books to find new authors and I use my Amazon gift cards that I earn here on Swagbucks to buy Kindle books. But I do have several authors that I prefer to have the actual physical book in my hands. I'm about 70% Kindle and 30% physical book at this point I think. :)

I enjoy them all three ways - audiobooks in the car with my daughter, e-books when a library copy is available, but mostly traditional books as they are the most widely available for check out.

I work at a bookstore, yet have come to read more on my Kobo. I just like how when I'm laying in bed, I don't have to jostle around to turn the page. Also, I can carry hundreds (thousands!) of books around in it. There are also a lot of books available for free.

No matter how many times you save it and where you save it.... a digital book just ins't as portable, easy to read, and, whether you like this or not, I just love the smell and feel of a real book! :D

Nothing beats a book you can physically own. If you buy DRM-locked audio books or ebooks, you're merely borrowing them and will lose access to them eventually.
MzNae8onit
on 09/16/13
Not unless there is a way to upload them to your hard drive, where you could save the copy of the e-book to read later. If you don't try to find a way to save them then yes, you are wasting your money and eventually loose access to them.

There are ways to strip DRM and some authors are opting to make their ebooks/audiobooks DRM-free. I prefer to go the digital route because moving is a pain in the butt, ESPECIALLY if you're living in a small apartment with a roommate. Physical books take up a lot of space, whereas ebooks only take up harddrive/cloud space. :P

That being said, I own a hard copy of most of the (digital) audiobooks I have. I've noticed things in the audiobook that I "missed" while reading and vice versa.

One thing I hate about physical books is that it's next to impossible to get the smell of tobacco smoke out of the paper. I have some doujinshi (independently made comic books from Japan) that I imported and spent a small fortune on. I also bought a (used) rare book about midnight movies and couldn't read it indoors because the smell (of smoke) filled the entire room. If someone smoked near my antique (well, 80 years old) book, I might just slap them.

I prefer physical books, but eventually I would like to get a kindle simply because it saves trees. I think it depends on the book though too. Some books just look nice on a shelf, honestly. And I'd feel better bringing a book to the beach than an expensive kindle.

Sorry, liked this by mistake. E-readers do not save trees. Paper is generated from trees grown specifically for that purpose. Without a demand for paper, the land would be used for something else.
MzNae8onit
on 09/16/13
The land could be used for growing organic gardens for low income individuals. This too is a great way to use the Trees. Those who enjoy paper would agree, once they read this, that is!

I like physically reading a book! It's more personal! I would like to win a Kindle and that would be the other way I would enjoy reading a book from home or on public transportation.

Physical copy, of course. I appreciate the convenience of digital books, and I've been known to enjoy audio books. And I almost always read the book before seeing the movie. And I don't understand people who don't like to read. I just don't. *shakes head*

While I read prefer real books, I also know that ebooks can't be "resold", but real books can. When you buy ebooks you are putting money into the system but not getting it back out ever. It's kinda of like renting.
