Why is it called Legal Sea Food?
Legal Sea Foods is a fixture in the Boston area as well as along the eastern seaboard. The original location was not a seafood market at first but rather a general store that accepted legal stamps. It was named 'Legal Cash Market' by the founder. Eventually, fish was added to the lineup becoming a seafood market selling fresh fish from coast to coast. The business continued to grow and evolve eventually becoming the Legal Sea Foods Restaurant company. Still headquartered in Massachusetts, Legal Sea Foods continues to be owned by the Berkowitz family.
