William Sille and his son Mack founded Nugget Market in 1926 in Woodland, California, and Mack handled most of the store’s daily operations. Under his leadership, new inventions in the grocery, such as separate meat departments, produce refrigeration, and electronic cashier stations were implemented. Mack’s grandson expanded the company in the 1970s, and specialty departments were added by 2000. Today, there are 16 Nugget Markets devoted to west coast foodies.
